Program of Activities

  • Each chapter builds its Program of Activities around three divisions: Student (members as individuals), Chapter (the chapter as a whole) and Community (the community as a whole).  Each division has quality standards that chapters should strive to achieve.  The following is a list of quality standards, descriptions and activities our chapter plans to carry out during each calendar year.

    January:
    Monthly Meeting; Chapter Banquet; Legislative Symposium; Pancake Supper; Iowa Applications Due; Pork Congress Judging Contest; Sioux Empire Judging Contest

    February:
    Monthly Meeting; Teacher Appreciation Breakfast; National FFA Week; Winter COLT; Sub-district Career Development Events (CDEs); Iowa Beef Expo Judging Contest

    March:
    Monthly Meeting; National Ag Week; District CDEs; Junior Feeder Weigh-In (Clay Co)

    April:
    Monthly Meeting;  State Convention; State CDEs; Labor Auction; Livestock ID Forms Due (Breeding Animals, Horse, Dog, etc)

    May:
    Monthly Meeting; May Term

    June:
    COLT; State Skills CDEs (Agronomy, Food Science, Horse Eval, Nursery/Landscape, Floriculture, Ag Mechanics); Sheep Weigh-In (Clay Co)

    July:
    Buena Vista County Fair; county fair livestock judging contests; Washington Leadership Conference (odd-numbered years); Clay County Fair Entries due

    August:
    Back to Books BBQ, State Fair (Little Hands on the Farm), Albert City Threshermens Show (Grandpa's Barn); State Skills CDEs (Meat Eval, Livestock Eval)

    September:
    Monthly Meeting, Clay County Fair (Barn Clean-up, Grandpa's Barn, and helping with various other activities), District Soils CDEs, Sack Lunches for Farmers, Grain Drive Kick-Off

    October:
    Monthly Meeting; Greenhand Fire-up; National FFA Convention (even-numbered years); Fruit Sales Orders; Chapter POA, Constitution & Dues due to Iowa FFA

    November:
    Monthly Meeting; 212/360 Conference

    December:
    Monthly Meeting; Fruit Sales Delivery; Application Workshop; Market Beef Weigh-In (Clay Co & State Fair)

    Experience the Action presentation,  Greenhand Degrees, Greenhand Fireup, Back To Books BBQ, chapter outings (concerts, ISU football games, etc)
    Economic Development - improve the economic welfare of the community

    presence in local parades, help with Threshermens preparations (shocking and threshing activities before and during the show), Clay County Fair barn clean-up

    Healthy Lifestyles - activities that make you feel better and realize your value

    Ski trip, broomball, trail ride, canoe races, dance & lessons, sand volleyball, breakfast at FFA meetings
    Financial - encourage financial management among members through earnings, savings, and investments

    Environmental - work to preserve natural resources and develop more environmentally responsible individuals

    DOT trash pick-up; monthly IOWATER monitoring; Earth Day and Arbor Day activities, maintain School Forest and School Prairie projects
    Career Success - promote your involvement and growth through ag-related experiences, jobs and entrepreneurship

    Blue Jacket Growers, livestock exhibition at fairs, judging contests, proficiency awards Chapter degrees, Iowa degrees and American degrees
    Public Relations - promote the FFA chapter in a positive light and inform students, parents, administration and community members about member and chapter accomplishments

    Banquet, Honorary Degree, chapter t-shirts, scrapbook, facebook page, chapter website, media relationships, membership signs at homes, 5K FFA Fun Run
    Human Resources - improve the welfare and well-being of FFA members and citizens in the community

    elementary safety day, sack lunches during harvest for local farmers, Food Check-Out Day activities, National Farm Safety Week activities
    Scholarship - develop a positive attitude toward lifelong learning

    Cooperation - develop teamwork and cooperative skills among members, officers and committees

    Citizenship - encourage members to become involved citizens of Sioux Central schools, our communities and our country

    Legislative Symposium, nursing home activities, attendance at local civic activities (town hall meetings, elected officials' visits, etc)
    Personal Growth - develop your occupation and career skills

    Artificial Insemination (AI) workshop, Beef Scholarship Extravaganza, Crop Scout Competition, BV County Corn Growers Quiz Bowl, Labor Auction, Clay County Fair Demonstration Contest, maintain School Garden and School Orchard projects, Skills CDEs & Workshops
    Support Groups - develop and maintain positive relations among FFA, parents, community leaders and the ag industry
