Erin Olson, Instructional Leader/Curriculum Director
Before returning to Sioux Central, I served the region as an Instructional Technology Consultant with Prairie Lakes Area Education Agency for three years. I began my career teaching middle school language arts for three years at Storm Lake St. Mary’s and high school English for seven years in the Sioux Central school district. When I taught at Sioux Central, I coached large and individual speech, served on numerous committees, and helped with technology integration. Sioux Central feels like home, and I am thrilled to return to the district. My children, Alexandra and Landon, attend Sioux Central, and the district is my husband's alma mater.
My bachelor's degree is in English, 7-12 education with a concentration in speech communication. My master's degree is in Instruction and Curriculum with an emphasis on effective teaching. I am a Google Certified Teacher, Levels 1 and 2. I am a Seesaw Ambassador and a Flipgrid Ambassador. I also serve on the ISTE Digital Storytelling Network committee.
I am passionate educator and curriculum designer. I have served on the Board of Directors for the student advocacy group, Iowa Student Learning Institute since its creation. I have been active in numerous state-level initiatives, including teacher evaluation reform and Iowa Communities of Practice. I am a connected educator using social media as a means to make global connections and support meaningful contributions. I support the bridge of technology and literacy to facilitate greater student voice and choice. I am advocate for the power of student contribution. I do not want our students to be the best in the world, I want them to be the best FOR the world.
