TEAM RULES

  1. Be at practice! You and your team cannot improve when teammates are absent.

  2. Be committed . Be prompt to practice, willing to help, and complete all phases of the workout.

  3. Be responsible . Take care of your business in the classroom and on the track. Put the team first.

  4. Be respectful . Proper language and good conduct are expected at all times. Act with integrity toward your coaches, teammates, parents, and school. Practice good sportsmanship.

  5. Be disciplined . Take care of your body--get plenty of water, sleep, and healthy foods. Do the right thing all the time. Make sure to lead by example. You have to work hard and persevere to succeed. Strive to get better every day!

Failure to follow team or school expectations/policies will result in disciplinary action. Violations of the Good Conduct policy will be handled according to the student handbook. If any part of the uniform is lost or damaged, you will be billed for new items. Disrespect to coaches, teammates, or competitors will not be tolerated. This will result in disciplinary action and/or possible removal from the team for the offending athlete(s).

PRACTICE

JH track practices are 4 times/week from 3:45-5:20. Practices are held Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, & Friday unless there’s a meet or early dismissal. Shuttle time is usually between 5:30-5:45. Coaches may opt to host optional practices when we see extra work is needed to prep our athletes for the next meet!

You are expected to dress properly for every practice. Please plan accordingly for the weather as we will try to be outside as much as possible. Bring a hooded sweatshirt to use as a warm up during practices. ~ You or your parent are required to notify a coach BEFORE you miss practice.

Excused absence: illness, family emergency, school related event (participation in an extracurricular activity occurring at the same time).
Makeup for excused absence= run 8 laps (2 miles)
Makeup for unexcused absence= run 12 laps (3 miles)

The coaches will determine if an absence is excused or unexcused. You must notify the Coaches at least one day in advance for an excused absence, barring any unforeseen circumstance. All missed practices must be made up before the next track meet. If 3 unexcused absences occur, dismissal from the team is probable.

TRACK MEETS

  • To be eligible to race in a meet, athletes must be in good standing with team & school policies.

  • If you've had an injury/illness serious enough to prevent you from participating in practice or a meet, you must work back to race readiness gradually to prevent further injury/illness.

  • Races & field events you participate in are at the coaches’ discretion.

  • Athletes must be in practice and able to fully participate the day before a meet in order to race. (Absence due to another school activity may be excused.)

  • All athletes must ride to the meet on the bus and are encouraged to ride home as a team on the bus.

  • Be on time for your events at each meet! Listen to the officials! This is each individual’s responsibility.

  • You are expected to be out on the infield of the track supporting your teammates and/or warming up if you are not running at that time.

  • You are expected to stay for the entire track meet to support your teammates!

  • Parents must sign their athlete out with a coach before taking their athlete home with them. (To allow an athlete to ride home with someone other than a parent, a written note from the parent must be signed by an administrator and provided to the coach before we leave for the meet.)

  • Meet information will be posted on the JH Track page linked off the school website.

  • Remind 101 will also be used for communication to/from coaches.
