Anyone interested in participating in HS swim team this winter needs to email Mr. Vasher at avasher@siouxcentral.org. There is an organizational meeting for athletes and parents on Oct. 26th in Spencer at 6:00 p.m.

Veterans Day (November 11) will be here before we know it. The SC Veterans Day program will be held FRIDAY, November 10 @ 10:30 in the high school gym. The community is invited to attend. If you know of a veteran, please invite him/her to our program. This year we will be having a guest speaker (former SC graduate) Seth Rachuy, Army.

Staff spotlight for October 23-27 - congratulations! Just a little reminder that this week is Parent/Teacher Conferences. We hope to see all the parents (K-12) at school this week! First quarter is done (how did that happen?), and we are on to 2nd quarter. Thank you to all the staff at SC who work so hard each and every day to provide the best education for our Rebels.

During conferences this week from 4-8, the yearbook staff will have a table set up to order both MS/HS and elementary yearbooks for the 2023-2024 school year. We also will have copies of both MS/HS and elementary yearbooks from past years to sell as well. MS/HS yearbooks are $45 and elementary yearbooks are $10. Cash or checks made out to Sioux Central Yearbook will be accepted. Please email yearbook23@siouxcentral.org with any questions!

Congratulations to our State Cross Country qualifiers: Linnea Bloom, Marley Madsen, Brayden Kramber, and Lucos Wernimont! They will run at the State meet in Fort Dodge on Saturday, October 28. Voted PPEL Communication- Monday, October 16, 2023 Hello Sioux Central! I just wanted to share with all of you the potential impact of the Voted PPEL coming up on November 7, 2023. I shared with the community that we are looking at the full $1.34 Voted PPEL. We are currently, in the FY24 school year, this current school year paying an additional $350,000 on our General Obligation Bond surplus. That current $350,000 we are paying is a $1.15895 levy we will no longer be paying. Our hope is we can replace that levy amount with the Full $1.34 Voted PPEL. This will be an overall increase of $0.18. Here is the tax impact below: Potential New Voted PPEL Levy Rate(not a bond): $1.34000 Minus the Elimination of the G.O. Bond Surplus Levy: - $1.15895 ____________ Potential Approximate NET Increase in Property Tax Levy Rate:$0.18105 ( The actual change in the levy rate is subject to other factors that may result in the change being slightly higher or less than this estimate. The rate will stay below the $12.25 tax rate based on the commitment of the Board.) The PPEL Tax Calculator will be coming to the Sioux Central website on Wednesday, Oct 18, 2023You can access your assessed values on the County website for both residential and commercial property. The Agricultural assessed value of your farmland based on the county will be found at the bottom of the Tax Calculator. Be on the lookout for the Tax Calculator. Reminder we have a meeting in Peterson at 6:00 p.m. this evening and another meeting here at the school Tuesday evening at 6:00 before the 7-12 Vocal Concert (the concert starts at 7:00). Pictured is some of our very own Sioux Central 8th grade students. They gladly took time out of class to attend The Clay County Fair to help teach surrounding elementary school students, including the Sioux Central Elementary 4th grade about the importance of a cell wall in plant cells. They also showed students how to extract DNA from a strawberry. In the classroom, our 8th grade is learning about DNA and mutations and how that affects an organism's physical traits. In addition, our 6th grade is learning about the structures and functions of a cell. Our MS students are seeing how what they learn in a classroom, can be extended and applied in future grade levels. Great to experience and be a part of!! More pictures of this to come. You will be able to see the students DNA and cell models during Parent Teacher Conferences. Please stop by and check it out!

SC students are hard at work rehearsing and creating beautiful set pieces for the upcoming musical. Opening week is only about a month away! Come see Disney's The Little Mermaid on Friday, November 10th and Saturday, November 11th.
